such as bars of soap....
and dirty, hair-covered, stuffed animals...
i can just see "J" remembering it's teacher appreciation week and searching his house for a proper gift. {he gave me a dirty stuffed zebra for christmas.} i would love to know his thoughts when he saw that bar of irish spring and knew it was the right gift for me. maybe that "shower everyday with soap" lesson actually stuck with him. {at least something did}
and poor "S". she's as dirty as the scorpion she gave me. maybe smellier though. this year she has pushed my already low patience to the brinks of losing all control. {i've had to take lots of deep breaths} but she gave me her scorpion. even if it was covered in pet hair... she was thinking of her teacher and that was nice. it made me want to be a little kinder and a lot more patient with her.

Katie! Thank you so much for posting this -- it made my day:) I can't even tell you how much I miss Geneva -- thanks for reminding me of the fun little quirks that make it what it is:)
Reminds me of the widow's might. No greater gift than that given by an underprivileged child - given with love.
I don't even know what to say...how precious!? :)
ha ha! That's funny! I don't remember getting my teachers anything for teacher appreciation day. I remember on the last day of class we'd pick our roses and give them to our teachers.
That is actually the sweetest thing I have ever heard. These kids have probably given you their most prized possessions.
Sweet!
That is so sweet! You just have to love and admire the mind of the child. I wonder if their parents knew they were giving the gifts! Maybe they worked together and gave you the soap to clean the scorpion.
